Seniors Classes

Seniors strength and flexibility exercise classes are claimable through most private health funds under ‘group physiotherapy’. Cost: $19 per class (prepaid 10 classes) or $22 per class (pay as you go). To ensure the classes run as smoothly as possible please read about our management of payments, class bookings and rebates.

Menai District Physiotherapy has been running Strength and Flexibility Exercise Classes for Seniors to assist with recovery from injury or post operative and to improve strength, balance and flexibility.

A systematic review of the ‘Otago Exercise Program’  (Age & Ageing 2010.39;681-687) revealed that exercise programs for 65+ age group could significantly reduce fall rates and death rates related to falls. This exercise program addresses the components of strength, balance, flexibility and endurance.

Our classes target adults aged 60 years and over. They involve the use of light hand weights and stretch bands, light aerobics and gentle stretches.

Our aim is to provide classes that will:

  • improve muscle strength, bone strength, balance and flexibility.
  • reduce joint pain and stiffness.
  • educate in the area of falls prevention.
  • control weight gain, blood pressure, blood sugar levels and cholesterol.

Our qualified physiotherapists are available to do individual assessments prior to starting exercise classes, if required. Specific programs can also be organised for those who would like to continue their exercises at home.

Our well equipped exercise area is air conditioned and, together with our experienced staff, your exercise class should be an enjoyable experience.
